History
The N.I. Vavilov Memorial Cabinet-Museum was organized in 1979, first as a museum of the history of genetics, and from 1984 as a Scientific Research Division for the History of Genetics under the Institute. Housed in the building constructed for the laboratories of the Institute in the 1930s, it was opened as a memorial cabinet in 1987 in honor of the centenary of the birth of the well-known biologist and geneticist Nikolai Ivanovich Vavilov (1887–1943), who directed the Institute from 1934 through 1940.
