History
The Russian Abroad Library-Fond was established in 1995 on the initiation of Aleksandr Isaevich Solzhenitsyn and Nikita Alekseevich Struve, the director of the YMCA-Press in Paris, with the sponsorship of the Government of Moscow. The basic purpose of the library is the retrieval, preservation and study of books and manuscripts of the first Russian emigration. The basis of its collections consists of books published by various foreign publishers, dating from 1920–1990, acquired from the Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn Russian Society Fond (Russkii obshchestvennyi fond im. A. Solzhenitsyna).
Library acquisitions are being actively assisted by the Union of Country and City Activitists (Soiuz zemskikh i gorodskikh deiatelei) in Paris, and a “Books for Russia” committee and other public organizations in the USA.
In 2009 the Library-Fond was renamed Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn Russia Abroad House.
