The second part—covering archival fonds—briefly describes archival materials acquired from 13 societies and organizations, 5 literary organizations, and 120 individuals. Other sections cover Greek, Western, and Oriental manuscripts. A complete index covers proper names of individuals and organizations. See also the survey article covering accessions during the years 1917–1941 in Trudy GPB 8(11) (1960): 267–87. Supplemental coverage of new accessions is provided in later reports as indicated.

(Lib: CU; PU).

The most recent general survey of the Oriental holdings in the division, listing 45 different collections (numbered fonds) with brief data including published descriptive literature about each.

g-363.1. Lebedev, Viktor Vladimirovich; and Vasil'eva, Ol'ga Valentinovna. “Iz istorii formirovaniia vostochnykh rukopisnykh fondov GPB. (Lib: DLC; IU; MH) [IDC-R-11,101(v. 1-3)].

Supplements the general description (g–363), with emphasis on the formation of the Oriental holdings, includes a list of collections and references to major published descriptions.

g-366. Dorn, Boris Andreevich.
Saur, 1978.

This monumental catalogue has never been superseded by a more comprehensive, up-to-date version, although it describes, to be sure, only the earliest accessions of the Oriental holdings. Unfortunately, the 1978 reprint adds neither introductory explanation nor updated coverage. See also the later Dorn catalogue (g–367) covering the Nikolai Khanykov collection of Arabic, Persian, and Turkic manuscripts acquired by the library in 1864.
