Access & Facilities
For access to the archival and library holdings, a letter is required from the researcher’s sponsoring institution to the director of the museum, although a personal application may be acceptable.
Researchers are accommodated in the museum offices, where materials are available the day they are ordered.
Xerox and photographic copies can be prepared.
There are catalogues for staff use in the Divisions of Manuscripts and Documents, of Drawings, and of Prints and Engravings. There are catalogue registers for individual items in the repository, inventory registers of acquisitions, and “passport” registers for the most valuable materials.
The museum Book Fond (ca. 15,000 vols.) includes part of the library of the Imperial Theaters, as well as the private book collections or parts thereof that once belonged to L.I. Zheverzheev, Iu.M. Iur'ev, A.E. Molchanov, and L.D. Blok, among others. The library holds literature on the theater and audiovisual materials. There are working files and card catalogues on theater personalia and theater productions, as well as facts-and-figures indexes on national and foreign theaters and theater buildings. A computer database is currently being established covering the holdings.
