History
The museum was founded in 1918 on the nationalized estate, which until 1870 had belonged to S.T. Aksakov and his family, and later to the well-known Russian patron of the arts, S.I. Mamontov. During the 1950s and 1960s the museum was under the jurisdiction of the Institute of the History of Art of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.
        Museum has a branch: Khot'kovo, Local Historical Division of the Abramtsevo State Historico-Art and Literary Museum-Preserve.
