The photograph collection began to form in 1986 and was stored initially in the Manuscripts Division. It retains extensive photograph collections, dating from as early as the 1880s. These include personal and family photographs, which came with the various groups of personal papers, and pictures illustrating the history, exhibits, and activities of the museum in various periods, which supplement the institutional records of the museum and those of the predecessor museum and collections it now holds.
