The rich archive, presented to the Center in 1990 by Nikolai Roerich—™s son Sviatoslav, brings together manuscripts, photographic materials, and printed texts representing the many faceted activities of the Roerich family from the late nineteenth century until the 1990s. Later some documents were acquired from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Foreign Intelligence Service, the Institute of Oriental Studies, and private persons. Of particular importance are some of Nikolai Roerich—™s personal papers, his library, and memorabilia that have been brought together by the museum, including those that have been returned from India with his paintings. The Division has also acquired photocopies of documents relating to the family from various Russian state archives.

History:
The Manuscript Division was organized in 1991 to process and preserve the rich archive of the Roerich family presented in 1990 by Sviatoslav Roerich (son of Nikolai).
