Also known as Comité Monnet; founded in 1955 in Paris as a pressure group to further international cooperation within Europe; presided by its founder, the Frenchman Jean Monnet; members were representatives of the larger political parties and non-communist trade unions in the member countries of the European Economic Community; its main interests were the Euratom treaty, the future of Europe as an independent nuclear power and the entry of Great Britain in the community; dissolved in May 1975.
