Biography

Pseudonym of Solomon Abramovič Kac; born in Slavjanka, Ukraine, Russia 1855, died in Bucharest 1920; pioneer of the socialist movement in Rumania; took part in the Russian populist movement in the seventies; fled from the police to Rumania from where he organized illegal transportation of Russian revolutionary literature; settled permanently in Rumania, where he became a Marxist and an ideologist of the socialist movement; engaged in famous polemics on questions such as the conditions for socialism in backward Rumania; well-known literary critic; kept in contact with the Russian social democracy through his friends Pavel Aksel'rod and Georgij Plechanov; opposed the entry of the Rumanian social democracy into the COMINTERN.
