History

Trade union federation of Bolivian mine workers, founded in Huanuni in 1944; Juan Lechín was elected its leader and retained this position until 1986 when he was succeeded by Victor López Arias; the FSTMB established itself as the backbone of the Central Obrera Boliviana (COB) and the most powerful and militant Bolivian union.
