History
Founded in 1919 as an independent organization which was associated with the League of Nations; aims at furthering world peace by improving industrial relations; participating countries are represented by both government delegates and by delegates of employers' and workers' organizations; the International Organization of Industrial Employers (IOE), which started its activities in 1920, acted as the secretariat of the employer representatives; in 1946, the ILO associated itself with the newly founded United Nations (UN); the ILO has its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

Conference papers and reports; minutes of the meetings of the Governing Body and its committees; charts of ratifications of international labour conventions, leaflets and lists of printed material published by the ILO; newspaper clippings and articles on the ILO; documents of the Committee on forced labour and emigration 1921-1927; documents of the Emergency Committee residing in London and the Governing Body residing in New York and subsequently in Canada during the Second World War; papers of its regional conferences, including the `Asian conference' and its preparatory committee 1951-1966 and the `African conference' 1960-1969.
