Biography

Born in Noswendel, near Trier, Prussia 1823, died in Dundee, Scotland 1897; studied in Düsseldorf and Bonn; worked as a teacher in Krefeld; member of the Communist League; took part in the German uprisings of 1848; had to flee Germany after the revolution together with his brother Johann Caspar, went to Switzerland, later to Great Britain; was a friend and follower of Karl Marx and for years teacher at Dundee High School.
