Biography
Born in Berlin 1864, died in Wilhelmshagen, Germany 1945; socialist historian; as an editor of the social democratic Volksstimme Magdeburg 1890, he took part in the oppositional group 'Die Jungen', which clashed with the Reichstagsfraktion towards the end of the 'Sozialistengesetz'; joined the Verein Unabhängiger Sozialisten in 1891, but returned to the Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands (SPD) when the former group embraced anarchist views; specialized in social politics; editor of Deutsche Krankenkassenzeitung 1899-1900 and Münchener Post 1907-1921; contributed to the Sozialistische Monatshefte; head of the SPD's party archive 1921-1933; his publications include studies about the party's history before and under the 'Sozialistengesetz'.
