History

The COMINTERN closely monitored adhering national communist parties; the strategies of the Communistische Partij Holland (CPH) were discussed within the COMINTERN at congresses, by its Executive Committee, by regional secretariats, by ad hoc commissions and at the COMINTERN Bureau in Berlin. Preceded by the Sociaal-Democratische Partij (SDP), founded in 1909 as a split-away from social democracy, the CPH was established in 1919; it was torn by conflict in the 1920s, resulting in the temporary existence of two communist parties; from 1935 until its dissolution in 1991 it was named Communistische Partij van Nederland (CPN).
