History
Originated as Comité Mondial des Étudiants contre la Guerre et le Fascisme, which came into being at the International Students Congress against War and Fascism in Brussels in 1934; changed its name into Rassemblement Mondial des Étudiants pour la Paix, la Liberté et la Culture (abbreviated as RME) in 1936; aimed at the cooperation of student organizations in the struggle against rising fascism which fitted in with the communist popular front policy.
