History

In 1931, the Rangoon University Students' Union was formed as a social organization; in 1935 Aung San, Ko Nu, Ko Thein Pe and Ko Kyaw Nyein became the leaders of the RUSU and led the second university students' strike against British colonial rule; on 8th May 1936 the first students' conference was held in Rangoon, organized by the RUSU; the RUSU was heavily involved in the 1988 uprisings in Burma; at the end of 1990, after the elections results of Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy were denied, the RUSU was forced again to work underground.
