History
The SA/NAM Association (South Africa/Namibia
Association) was founded in 1986; seated in in Brussels, it was concerned with
co-ordinating, stimulating and monitoring development projects in South Africa
and Namibia, which were initiated by its member organizations; funds for these
projects was raised by the member organisations of SA/NAM, mostly European
NGO's and anti-apartheid organisations; a list of the member organisations can
be found in the appendix to this list; greater part of the funds were provided
by the European Community in the European Special Programme for the Victims of
Apartheid (ESP); most of the development projects in South Africa were
conducted by the Kagiso Trust which was founded in 1986 by
the South African Council of Churches (SACC) and
the South African Bishop Conference (SABC);the projects
were mainly in the fields of education, community building and culture; in
Namibia the Namibia Development Trust was responsible for
the projects; after the disappearance of the apartheid regime and the start of
the Codesa talks the function of SA/NAM disappeared as well; the organisation
was dissolved in 1993.
