History

Formed in London during the Second World War; officially founded in November 1945 at the World Youth Conference in London, with representatives from 63 countries; initially aimed to promote cooperation amongst youth and students for the cause of freedom, democracy and equality; gradually it developed into an exclusively communist organization, stressing the need for anticolonialism and disarmament; had its seat in Budapest; its central organ was World Youth; its main activity was the organizing, at certain intervals of time and in alternating European capitals, of the `World Festival of Youth and Students for Peace and Friendship'.

Collection of printed and processed documents, including leaflets, pamphlets, bulletins, publications on conferences and activities, statements on the constitution and documents relating to the successive celebrations of the World Festival of Youth and Students for Peace and Friendship, from Prague in 1947 to Moscow in 1985.
