History

Industrial town between Valencia and Alicante; since the days of the First International one of the anarchist strongholds in the Levante with powerful libertarian syndicates and other libertarian organizations; started the first general strike in Spain in 1873; when the Spanish Civil War started in 1936 they quickly took control of the industry, commerce and agriculture and organized collectives.
