Akimov-Machnovec, Vladimir P. True name: Vladimir Petrovič Machnovec; pseudonym: Akimov; born in Staryj Oskol, Russia 1872, died in Moscow 1921; revolutionary and historian of the social democratic movement; in exile from 1897; one of the leaders of the Sojuz Russkich Socialdemokratov zagranicej, spokesman for the `Economists'; delegate to the Second Party Congress of the Rossijskaja Social-Demokratičeskaja Rabocaja Partija (RSDRP) in 1903; returned to Russia in 1905; after 1906 involved in cooperatives.

INTRODUCTION

Vladimir P. Machnovec was born in Staryj Oskol, Russia, in 1872. In St. Petersburg he engaged in revolutionary activity. His party name was Akimov . In 1897 he was arrested. But he escaped and fled to Western Europe. He was one of the leaders of the Sojuz Russkich Socialdemokratov zagranicej , and spokesman for the 'Economists'. In 1905 he returned to Russia. After 1906 he became involved in cooperatives.

Akimov 's sisters also were dedicated revolutionaries. Julija P. (Gavenis-) Machnovec (1869-1968) was member of a Menshevist group in Voronež. Lidija P. Machnovec (pseud. Bruker)(1876-?) was delegate to the Second Party Congress of the RSDRP .

The IISH received the archive through Boris Souvarine in 1976. The archive also contains letters received by his sisters and mother from various correspondents, and a few other documents from Julija P. and Lidija P.

The collection measures 2.25 running metres.
