History
Trade union federation, founded in april 1952 by the mineworkers' union Federación de Sindicatos de Trabajadores Mineros de Bolivia (FSTMB) during a congress in Cochabamba; sustained by the new government in which the Movimiento Nacional Revolucionario became the ruling party; Juan Lechín Oquendo was elected executive secretary and remained in office until June 1986; today the COB is the centre of the Bolivian trade union movement, and all the national unions except the transport workers are affiliated to it.
