INTRODUCTION
Turan Gül was born in Ordu, Turkey in 1940. In 1966 he joined the local newspaper Ordu Sesi, later Tribün, as correspondent. In 1971 he came to The Netherlands as a migrant worker. Besides his work at the Bruynzeel factory in Zaandam he continued to report on the Turkish migrant workers in Zaandam in Tribün and from 1972 in the Turkish daily newspaper Hürriyet. From 1973 to 1978 he wrote in the local newspaper De Typhoon a weekly column called 'Rozentuin' (Rose garden). He died in 1997.
The papers of Turan Gül were acquired in 2004 due to a project concerning the 40th anniversary of the signing of the recruitment agreement between Turkey and The Netherlands. The papers comprise mainly typescripts and clippings of the articles by Turan Gül which cast light on the daily life and activities of the Turkish migrant workers in Zaandam.
A great number of negatives has been transferred to the audio-visual section of the IISH.
The size of the collection is 0.7 m.
