History

Founded as an international professional secretariat during the first International Bookbinders' Conference in 1907; its seat was in Berlin 1907-1920, Berne 1920-1935 and Copenhagen 1935-1949; besides cooperation the members of the Internationale Föderation der Buchbinder und verwandter Berufe promised to support each other during large strikes or lockouts and to keep out foreign blacklegs; its information bulletin was published in several languages from 1908; its 11th Conference in 1949 decided to merge the IFB with related international organizations to form a new International Graphical Federation (IGF), which eventually materialized in 1953.

Statutes 1907, file concerning the agreement of reciprocity [1911]; documents on International Bookbinders' Conferences 1922-1949, on the International Executive Committee 1923-1936, on the International Bookbinders' Secretariat 1921-1948; correspondence with international organizations, affiliated organizations and persons in European countries and Canada 1932-1949; financial documents 1920-1953; some correspondence and other documents received and copies of correspondence and documents dispatched by the Scandinavian Secretariat in Copenhagen 1934-1936, by the Bogbinderforbundet in Danmark 1928-1935 and by the Dansk Bogbinder og Kartonnagearbejder Forbund 1945-1965.
