Biography
Born in Gandaria, Dacca, British India 1911, died in Guwahati, India 2000; belonged to the Shree Sangha group; arrested in connection with the Imperial Bank robbery in October 1931; sentenced to 10 years; deported to the Andaman Islands; participated in two hunger strikes at Andaman Cellular Jail in 1933 and 1937 and again in 1939 in Dum Dum Central Jail; repatriated in 1938; released in September 1939; associated himself with the Communist Party of India; general secretary of the Ex-Andaman Political Prisoners' Fraternity Circle in Calcutta which had two objectives: to make the Andaman Cellular Jail a national monument and to get the government to take moral responsibility to look after the dignity and financial security of the Ex-Andaman freedom fighters and their families.
