Bibliography and library science

On the whole, this collection is of particular interest, including several works which retain their practical value even today.

The 'history of printing' collection contains a number of works of special interest (see the list of special works below). Books with the call numbers D 4-23 are about the claims of Laurens Jansz. Coster on the invention of printing, although none of these are works are unique or of special importance.

The collection bibliography contains a large number of reference works, which despite their age are still used by book historians.

Books with the call numbers D 73-105 form a collection of nineteenth century bibliographies, ordered according to country and/or period. Further research is needed to determine whether the collection contains works of special importance. The same is true for the (library) catalogues in the part on 'library science'.

This collection contains library catalogues from a large number of learned societies.

Works with the call numbers D 260-495 are (auction) catalogues from private libraries and booksellers, while those with the call numbers D 264-268, 279, 284, 306, 323, and 329 contain annotations on (sales) prices and/or buyers' names. The Academy Library contains (auction) catalogues for the following people of special interest: M. van Geuns (D 315), J.H. van Swinden (D 321-322), J. Meerman (D 323-325), W. Bilderdijk (D 336), J. Willmet (D 342), D.J. van Lennep (D 365), A.J. van der Aa (D 386), G. Vrolik (D 442), Is. da Costa (D 447), M. Nijhoff (D 449), W. Vrolik (D 459), and J. van Lennep (D 466).
