Subcollections
For the larger part the Academy Library was established by gifts and bequests and exchange of publications with other learned societies. Thus a collection came into being which encompassed all scientific disciplines, but was very heterogeneous with regard to volume and extent. Originally, the main part of the collection was ordened and placed in the stacks by subject category, while a number of larger bequests and donations were placed separately.
Because of this several subcollections can be distinguished within the Academy Library. In the survey of subcollections, original call numbers have been added where applicable.
