Collection Jacob van Lennep
The Collection Jacob van Lennep contains almost the complete works of Van Lennep. The collection was bequeathed to the Academy in 1881 by Petrus Knoll.
Jacob van Lennep (1802-1868) was a writer and poet. He studied law at Leiden University and worked as a state attorney in Amsterdam. His literary work, of which his historical novels are the most important, was very popular in its time. De lotgevallen van Ferdinand Huyck (1840) is considered as one of his best works. His novel of manners De lotgevallen van Klaasje Zevenster (1865-1866) was considered scandalous by some. His Vondel edition remains a work of particular interest.
