New Chinese Posters

The Institute's collection of Chinese propaganda posters and prints, which is quite large already, was enriched by ca. 105 pieces. Many of the 'new' posters are from the early years of the People's Republic (1949-1955), the years around the Great Leap Forward (1957-1962) and the early stage of the Cultural Revolution (1966-1967).

Here are just a few examples, prior to conservation and cataloguing.

Female farm workers bringing their children to the nursery, ca. 1950

Group with fly swatters, pesticide, dead rats and dead sparrows, propagating the campaign to 'Kill the Four Pests', 1957

Mao Zedong as the chief architect of the First Five Year Plan, 1953

Female farm worker with rich harvest (published in the year of probably the worst famine in Chinese history...), 1961

Jiang Qing, Mao's wife, 1966-1967
