Michel writes: "One morning, during the first period of deportation, we witnessed the arrival of the Arabs, distinguished-looking in their white burnous. They too were deported because they had rebelled against oppression. These Orientals, detained far away from their tents and herds, were marked by great simplicity, kindheartedness, and sense of justice. They too failed to understand why they were treated so badly ..."
