Mission Yuppie Eradication Project

At the end of last year the Institute received a collection of documents from Kevin Keating, a well known local activist in San Francisco. The material (mostly copies) consists of leaflets, posters, articles, letters and short stories. The majority of the documents tell the story of the so called 'Mission Yuppie Eradication Project', a campaign starting in 1998. In a direct action and confrontational style the project tries to save the Mission area in San Francisco from losing its character as a low rent working class neighbourhood to an expensive playground for yuppies. In 1999 an incitement to vandalize expensive cars and restaurants caused controversy and high media attention.

Here are a few examples of leaflets from 1998-2000. Click on the small image to display a larger image.
