Buttons and Pins
The IISH has a collection of ca. 5.050 buttons, badges, cuff links and pins: small objects that can be pinned to clothing. Best known are the coloured buttons from the sixties, but the IISH collection also contains many rare pins from the beginning of the 20th century, such as the May 1 pins from Austria 1894-1931.
Digitized copies, low resolution scans only, of buttons can be viewed by using search portal search.iisg.nl. Search for 'button' plus country, organisation, person or subject.
Below the buttons are listed by country of provenance (note that buttons issued by international secretariats of international organizations are filed under the 'I' of International). Within the country lists, they are divided into categories and subjects, as consistently as possible. Quantities are given.
