5. Searching year or period

XX-2      = 2nd quarter of the 20th century
1930     = only 1930

6. Searching geographical region

You may find geographical regions under various names, depending on the period and the political structure. Contemporary names of countries are in English, local names in the local language (as in the Times Atlas)

Every geographical name has also a geographical code. The codes don't change (they are independent from time or politics), the real geographical names can vary. You'll find Rhodesia next to Zimbabwe, but in both cases the geographical code is SAF. Everything on South-America you'll find under the code ‘SAM', pictures on Brazil, only under ‘Brazil'. This thesaurus also contains a list of countries and geocodes.
For campaigns against or in support of a country, see Searching campaigns.
