Elsbeth Tijssen has been working as a freelance photographer since 2004. She makes documentary films, portraits, and news photos as her own projects and on assignment. Her clients include Trouw, Het Parool, De Groene Amsterdammer, Filosofie Magazine, CODE Magazine, Reload, Folia (University of Amsterdam), and Projectbureau Zuidas (City of Amsterdam). She prefers working on long-term projects. Recently she took a series of photos about a woman who had to be hospitalized after having lived in her own home for 65 years. She also portrayed a family in White Russia, and she traveled twice to the Caucasus. Beginning in 2008, she has photographed the Sunday observance in Holland for the monthly Filosofiemagazine.
