How difficult publishing Marx’s work was, and how important the editing by Engels was, is apparent on nearly every page of the manuscripts. This one was “nicht benutzt” (not used) for the third volume of Capital. Publication of the new Marx-Engels Gesamtausgabe, which the IISH rescued from destruction upon the fall of the Iron Curtain, reveals that several texts by Marx – including the famous ‘Paris manuscripts’ and the Grundrisse – were never written by him as they became known to readers.
