57 The Little Red Book

The Little Red Book ‘in action’ in 1966. The text reads: ‘Criticize the old world and build a new world with Mao Zedong Thought as a weapon.’ Propaganda posters became one of the most important communication vehicles of the Communist Party after the People’s Republic of China was proclaimed in 1949, although the Cultural Revolution brought change here as well: the Red Guards closed the old design workshops and introduced a new style.
