16 Economy and philosophy

Stuart Mill was not only so famous that he appeared on picture postcards issued in Berlin after his death; his works were also very widely read, as the stamped volume of his Principles of Political Economy, with some of their applications to social philosophy (1842) demonstrates. Here, members of the Conservative Club in Liverpool, for example, could read about 'cooperation, or the combination of labour.'
