60 The Christian Trade Union
After the Protestant trade union Patrimonium was founded in 1876, the Christelijk Nationaal Vakverbond arose in 1909 and comprised Catholics among its members until 1912 (when the bishops prohibited this practice). The union appealed to employees who valued solidarity but not more forceful pressure tactics, such as strikes. The archive of the CNV and the largest unions affiliated with it are at the IISH.
