Trained as a secondary teacher of history in Amsterdam (VLVU) and as a librarian in The Hague. Worked from 1979 at the library of the Free University Amsterdam.
Joined the IISH in 1991 as deputy head of the library and became head of the library in 1994. Was manager of collections from 2000-2007. Has been working as policy officer since 2007.
