International Children's Day

International Children's Day had its origin in the `World Conference for the Well Being of Children', held in Geneva, Switzerland in 1925. After the conference, governments around the world designated a day as Children's Day to draw attention to children's issues. Many countries, including the Soviet Union, chose June 1. The Soviet government encouraged the publication of modern children's books, illustrated by well-known artists. In 1931 Aleksandr Deineka made the drawings for Parad Krasnoi Armii (The Parade of the Red Army).
