Never Mind the Bollocks

Ripped & torn, nr 9
CSD punkzines collection

The release of 'Never mind the Bollocks', the new album of the Sex Pistols, was hot news in November 1977. And not only because of its provocative music. On 5 November 1977 a manager of a record shop is arrested for displaying the promotional poster of the album in his window. The word 'bollocks' violated the Indecent Advertising Act' of 1898. A professor of English had to explain the history and use of the word to prevent a conviction. The November issue of Ripped & Torn, one of the punk magazines from the CSD collection, is replete with information about the Sex Pistols. In addition to the advertisement and a review, the Pistols featured in the centerfold.
