On July 6, 1535 the head of Thomas More fell, who, as the author of Utopia, would acquire eternal praise. More composed Utopia in Latin in 1515, the first edition appeared in Louvain in 1516. No wonder the IISH was to become a muster-place for the works of utopians. Books about imaginary travels, utopian communities, futuristic visions and authors like More, Etienne de la Boetie and Edward Bellamy are preserved with utmost care. From the Utopia collection an early miniature edition of Utopia is shown, printed in Oxford 1663.
