Courante uyt Italien ende Duytschlandt, 7 augustus 1632

PM 401
The oldest newspaper in the Netherlands was called Courante uyt Italien ende Duytschlandt (Courant from Italy and Germany). It was printed in Amsterdam, but carried reports about all of Europe, especially on trade, wars, and natural disasters. The oldest issue from 14 June 1618 is kept in Stockholm. The Dutch Press Museum has editions from 1630 and 1632 in its collection. The variation in font size of an issue of 7 August 1632 is remarkable. The article appeared to be bigger than the page size, so below on the right a smaller font size was used.
