'New Rules for the realtors in the City of Amsterdam....8 January 1678'
Br Ned 1678:2
The Amsterdam realtors' guild adopted new rules and prices on 8 January 1678. The guild forbade its members from buying or producing goods themselves. Realtors had to remain intermediaries between sellers and buyers. The price list for realtors' transactions is six pages long and mentions all sorts of products ranging from tar to diamonds, candy and whale oil. Engaging in commerce on Sundays is prohibited on pain of a 25 guilders' fine. The members of the guild are obliged to contribute to the burial of a member, and anyone who fails to do this is fined thirty cents.
Since 1633 the realtors' Guild House has been on the corner of the Nieuwe Zijds Voorburgwal and the Nieuwe Nieuwstraat.
