Jewish Brigade Welcome

Unser Wort, 10 August 1945
ZF 31384
Nearly one year after liberation, the Jewish organizations in Belgium try to get back to work. The Poale-Zion, the socialist Zionists, once again publish their stencilled weekly Unser Wort in Brussels. In the issue of August 10th, they welcome the Jewish Brigade. This Brigade belonged to the British army and was made up by Jewish boys living in Palestine. The army command, fearing political troubles, was anxious not to involve the Jewish Brigade in combat. After liberation the Brigade operated as security guards in France, Belgium and the Netherlands. The Jewish soldiers were enthusiastically welcomed by surviving Jews in these countries.
