Straw and horsehair are the new basic fabrics for fashionable ladies' hats in 1875. "Geraniums, poppies, and cornflowers are very popular" in Paris. Le journal des modistes et des lingères of June 1875 is lyrical about the flower trimmings. "The bonnets and the hats look like walking gardens."
