30 Years of La Protesta

Certamen Internacional de la Protesta, 1927
20/94 fol
In the 1880s immigration to the Argentine Republic increased rapidly. The many poor newcomers were receptive to socialist and anarchist ideas. The Italian anarchist Malatesta spent some time in Buenos Aires spreading propaganda. Among the many periodicals that emerged, Protesta Humana was one of the most important. It first appeared on 13 June 1897, and changed its name to La Protesta in 1904. On the occasion of its 30th anniversary in 1927 the book Certamen Internacional de la Protesta was published, containing contributions by well-known anarchists such as Nettlau, Fabbri, and Abad de Santillan. They wrote about the history of anarchism in Argentina and Latin America, and more generally about tactical questions, the international organizations, and dictatorships. La Protesta is available at the IISH from 1897 onwards on microfilm .
