Terrorist Attack on Bismarck

Kladderadatsch, 1874
5/25 fol
The German chancellor Bismarck is only slightly wounded in an attempt to murder him in Bad Kissingen on 13 July 1874. The offender belongs to the Catholic political wing. The man committed his crime because of frustration with Bismarck's various measures and laws against Catholics. In 1873, for instance, Catholics were prohibited from marrying in church. Bismarck regards his politics as a war against an internal enemy with international connections. Bismarcks Roman Catholic opponent in the House of Representatives is called "The black man himself" in the satirical magazine Kladderadatsch.
