Father Moon Is Watching

Aydede, 13 October 1948
ZF 66433
The satirical Turkish paper Aydede (Father moon) began to appear in 1922, with Refik Halid Karay as chief editor. It called itself a "really independent political and entertaining newspaper". The paper contained many drawings from well known satirical artists and short informational pieces. This issue of 13 October 1948 shows a drawing by Turhan. The imam, symbolizing the government, preaches on (sugar) celebration day: "the only thing I can come up with to save the situation is to raise prices." His audience, the people, answers: "Why not come down?"
