Sacco and Vanzetti in Court

Campaign for the release of Sacco and Vanzetti

BG A53/90
On 14 July 1921 the trial against Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti begins in Massachusetts. They are accused of murder in the course of robbery. From the very start it is clear that political motives influence the administration of justice. The accused, as anarchists and immigrants, do not seem to have a chance. Death by execution awaits them on August 23, 1927. A wave of protest demonstrations throughout the world has no effect, as the judges deny a new trial. In their lifetimes, Sacco and Vanzetti became martyrs, and they are still martyrs.
