A Centenary of Marxism

Picture postcard from Karel van het Reve, Moscow 14 September 1967
BG A9/455
On September 14th 1967, the Dutch writer Karel van het Reve sends a picture postcard to the librarian of the IISH, showing the Solovetskii monastery, a detention camp under Stalin and even before under Lenin.
"Dear Maria, this card is a historical document for several reasons. First: it is despatched exactly hundred years after the publishing of the first part of Das Kapital (Hamburg, 14 September 1867). Second: if you turn over, you see a picture of one of the first concentration camps managed by Marxists. So it really needs to be recorded in the IISH iconographical department! Many greetings to the comrades!"
